India expelled a senior Canadian diplomat on Tuesday, escalating tensions between the two countries over the assassination of a Sikh activist in Canada.
The expulsion came after Canada accused India of being involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. Nijjar was a prominent Sikh leader in western Canada, and according to local police, he was gunned down in his truck by two masked gunmen outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia.
